From IIM Ahmedabad, I joined ICICI Ltd, which was then a Development Finance Institution, in its project lending division. I appraised over 35 projects in diverse sectors to determine their credit worthiness for project loans. This gave me a great insight into new projects and entrepreneurial thinking.

As a member of the ITC Group’s Financial Services Division, was a part of the team that set up several businesses including a stock broking business, a private equity business, an NBFC, an investment banking business, an insurance business and the foray into fund management with Threadneedle UK, into which I subsequently moved. This role gave me my first exposure into the setting up and scaling of businesses.

Was deputed by ITC Ltd as their representative to set up this Joint Venture from scratch. Was responsible for securing regulatory approvals, negotiation of the JV agreement, recruitment of the team and for scaling the business. I headed the investment team and thus oversaw the investments of the ITC Threadneedle Mutual Fund. The Top 200 scheme managed by me was ranked as the best performing Equity Fund by Micropal in 1997.

Was the first CEO of this JV between Prudential plc and ICICI Bank, then called Prudential ICICI AMC. Was responsible for the leadership and build out of this company. The company rose in my tenure to become the largest AMC in the private sector in less than 2 years.

Was responsible for providing the strategic direction, leadership and for the build out of the financial services business of the Aditya Birla Group. During my tenure, I oversaw the setting up of several new businesses and scaled the overall platform. I was the first CEO of the holding company that was set up to consolidate all the businesses under one entity, which was then listed. I was a Board member on all the financial services businesses and was on the Board of Aditya Birla Management Corporation.
